I absolutely love a DIY wedding. As a total craft nerd myself, I always find myself squealing with delight over colourful DIY wedding decor, quirky details and unique handmade ideas. I have so many talented couples who create wonderful items for their big day’s and this one was certainly no exception!

Sarah and Ben had a fantastically colourful DIY wedding in Liverpool in September, and I absolutely loved spending the day with these two wonderful, colourful characters and their gorgeous families! Sarah and Ben created so many amazing colourful DIY wedding details, from their quirky button holes and centrepieces, to metres and metres of bunting, an entire table of homemade cakes, and even, if you can believe it, Sarah’s INCREDIBLE wedding dress! So clever!

An Intimate Ceremony at St George’s Hall

Sarah and Ben had an intimate ceremony at St George’s Hall, with their closest friends and family. With lovely readings by their mums, and a family union service to unite Sarah and Ben and their sons Jack and Victor together as an ‘official’ family, it was beautifully touching- I shed a tear or two, I won’t lie! The ceremony was followed by a walk round the cathedral gardens for some lovely cuddly portraits in a place the couple love- and where we were even photo bombed by an over-friendly labrador! We wandered down to the Baltic triangle afterwards for some quirky portraits with the colourful graffiti backdrops the area is so famous for, which complimented the couple’s quirky style perfectly.

A gorgeous DIY celebration- Bluecoat Wedding Photography, Liverpool

In the evening, Sarah and Ben were joined by their friends and family for a fabulous party at The Bluecoat – a stunning art gallery venue which was perfect for their quirky DIY decor. Sarah festooned the venue with strings of colourful bunting and twinkly fairy lights, and the tables were adorned with the cutest hand-written quotes (including some by their little boys, Jack and Victor), sugar skulls, pom poms and handmade felt flowers. I loved how personal everything was, and how it so perfectly reflected the couple’s fantastic personalities.

The guests enjoyed cocktail hour in the stunning Bluecoat garden, before enjoying speeches and dancing, and lots of food and cake! The whole day was an absolute triumph and so full of happy vibes from start to finish- which made my job an absolute joy. Thank you so much Sarah and Ben!
