30 James Street Wedding Photographer- Gorgeous Urban Wedding at 30 James Street Hotel, Liverpool- Gillian & Ryan
What can I say about these two? Gillian and Ryan are just the sweetest couple! I love being a 30 James Street wedding photographer- it is a fab, dramatic urban space with a great history, and a perfect location for an urban Liverpool wedding.
Gill and Ryan’s gorgeous wedding at 30 James Street Liverpool was planned to perfection, from the blossom trees to hint at their big honeymoon plans, to the tiniest hand-crafted details like their amazing cake topper. 30 James Street appealed to them because of their love of history and architecture. The iconic ‘Streaky Bacon’ building was once home to the White Star Offices, and the news of the Titanic’s sinking was announced from the balcony there- so for two history buffs, it was the perfect Liverpool venue! Not to mention it is perfectly located for some awesome urban wedding photography.

Gill and Ryan told me: “We wanted the day to be a celebration in a city that had been such a big part of our lives. Gill is originally from Liverpool, went to uni there, worked and lived in the city. Ryan, as a teen and young adult travelled back and forth, making friends and falling for the city in his own way, all the way from Yorkshire.” “So when we met and went out on our first date it had to be Liverpool naturally. We shared stories of places, friends and memories laughing and building our bond. The city to us is a second home so no where else would do to get married in, from first date to wedding day!” “The venue is fascinating and as history lovers (sad but true) we fell for the building without knowing is special story- surviving the bombing in the war, being the only building on the docks to stay standing due to the unique structure, original features saved and the passion and pride of one man to restore the hotel to its glory of the Titanic years!” “We are most looking forward to having all our family and friends together in one place at the same time, we want to sing, dance and eat. In honesty whilst that’s great on the day, we just cant wait to be husband and wife and start our next journey with each other.”
From the get-go, I felt instantly welcomed in by Gill, her mum and her amazing bridesmaids. They were so chilled and had an absolute ball, even getting a shout out on Graham Norton’s Radio 2 show! It was such a fun, relaxed start to the day. Gillian looked incredible in her Essence of Australia gown and stunning hair flower vine, which were an Etsy find that came all the way from Russia! I absolutely loved her incredible Irregular Choice shoes too, but check out below what she changed into for the evening (hint… she’s a Harry Potter fan like me!)
30 James Street’s stunning cermeony and reception space is beautifully lit, and has grandeur in spades. Gillian and Ryan chose to dress is with amazing blossom trees (as a hint at a future plan- a honeymoon in Japan.) The room looked incredible- almost as incredible as the awesome couple. The look of absolute joy as Gill walked down the aisle to meet her love was a real tear-jerker! She even walked down to Toto’s Africa, played on the harp- I mean, how cool is that? Their ceremony was a perfect tribute to how devoted this gorgeous pair are. Afterwards, the guests, along with the bride and groom had drinks in the Carpathia bar and its stunning balcony, which has incredible views of the city.
We spent some time exploring the gorgeous Albert Dock, playing with the stunning September sunshine, and having a ridiculous amount of fun. The whole experience totally confirmed to me that Liverpool is the city that has my heart! And is it any wonder when, on our wanderings, this gorgeous pair get showered with a million compliments and congratulations, glasses of fizz and congratulations-toasts galore, from some lovely local friendly revellers, and last but not least a free bottle of coke from the prettiest donut stand in all the world? It’s just the friendliest city in the whole world! We headed over to the iconic Albert Dock carousel, took in some culture in Tate Liverpool’s Mermaid Courtyard and the incredible Ugo Rondinone’s Liverpool Mountain. Gillian & Ryan were an absolute dream to photograph- up for anything, and so in love- they made my job so easy!
The couple and their guests definitely showed Liverpool how to party! The dance floor was packed with excellent moves all night long (including another excellent rendition of Toto’s Africa by Gill and her bridesmaids!). There was also a super fun photo-booth which definitely proved popular too. Such a fun day! Thank you so much for having me Gill and Ryan- enjoy Italy and I hope you have a fabulous life together. Enjoy your preview photos too!

What is an 'Oh Shit! Kit'? Ok, so I go to A LOT of weddings... and, inevitably, at each of those weddings, there are little things that go wrong. Zips that get stuck, heels put through hems, broken nails, cut fingers... the list is endless. Generally, mild panic...
