Glittery Alternative Liverpool Wedding at Ullet Road Unitarian Church

I love a good alternative Liverpool wedding. Scousers always know how to party right!

Kate and Tom absolutely did just that. With arcade machines, gold sparkles everywhere, confetti cannons, smoke bombs and rock songs instead of hymns, they absolutely blew the idea of a traditional wedding out of the water and it was AWESOME!! Thank you so much to Charlotte at Electric Blue Photography and Film for having me along to second shoot.

The Ceremony

So, I know what you’re picturing now. Church ceremonies are traditional and (if we’re being honest) a wee bit boring. Well, not at Ullet Road Unitarian Church. The church itself is stunning, a big imposing Gothic building with the most incredible stained glass windows, perfect for more alternative Liverpool weddings. The ceremony itself was so personal and really moving, with lots of surprises along the way! The couple totally turned the idea of traditional hymns on its head and had their guests sing 80’s rock songs including Bon Jovi’s “Living On A Prayer”, accompanied by a string quartet. It was so funny, and absolutely everyone joined in. I’ve never laughed so much during a church ceremony in my life! The church was literally two minutes from Kate and Tom’s flat, so they only had to stroll down the road to their wedding. Perfect!

The Couple

Kate and Tom were absolutely adorable, and ridiculously in love. I love that their wedding represented them so completely. Kate looked incredible, her beautiful dress complimented her amazing tattoos perfectly, and her hair and make-up by The Little Hairmaid were just stunning. We also got to pop back to their flat before portraits so that Kate and Tom could have pictures with their cat, who looked adorable in her own special wedding dress!! At this point, Kate changed into her amazing gold dancing soles with flashing soles! What a babe! We headed off for couples portraits in Sefton Park, which is just opposite the church, and broke out the smoke bombs. As I’m sure you’ll agree, they absolutely rocked it and looked incredible.

The Venue

Keeping it all local, and nice and simple, Kate and Tom had their reception in the Church hall at the Unitarian Church. Village halls and church halls are perfect for alternative weddings because they really are a blank canvas for you to do you- which this gorgeous pair did in spades! I love shooting weddings like this because they’re always so chilled and relaxed and so personal to the couple. The reception had an 80’s theme, with gold sequins and twinkly fairy lights everywhere. Just gorgeous. Their gorgeous glittery selfie wall went down an absolute treat, complete with Fuji Instax, and they had two awesome retro arcade machines to entertain their guests (and enjoy an epic bride and groom game-off!) from Gaming4Weddings.

My highlights from this AWESOME wedding

The Food

The food at this incredible alternative wedding needs its own category. Not only did they have the most amazing buffet, but they treated their guest to Pizza from amazing Liverpool food truck, I Knead Pizza. In lieu of a traditional wedding cake, they had the most delicious looking Krispy Kreme donut tower- it took every ounce of restraint form me not to eat it all!!

The Party

The dance floor at this wedding was absolutely INSANE. SO MUCH amazing dancing! The couple had really got everyone in the dancing mood by handing out glowsticks and neon accessories- a really fun addition to their retro theme! Their guests didn’t disappoint, showing off their best moves. The whole day was so much fun, and a real laugh, as I’m sure you’ll see from the photos. Enjoy!
