Chetham’s Library Manchester Wedding Photography

If you are planning a Harry Potter themed wedding, or a wedding at Chetham’s Library, Manchester- you’re going to love this!

Stacie and Duncan got married at Chetham’s Library, which is the oldest public library in the English-speaking world! I mean, how bloody cool is that, please? Plus, as the BEST bonus ever, it looks exactly like Hogwarts. I mean, I was literally transported into the Harry Potter world of my wildest dreams! This STUNNING library in Manchester with its beautiful grounds and spooky, magical vibes was the perfect setting for their alternative Halloween wedding. It was such a fun day and even the inevitable October rain didn’t dampen the day!

Getting Hitched

The ceremony was an intimate service in the library’s old dining room. During the ceremony there was such a gorgeous atmosphere, and Stacie and Duncan just looked so in love. It was really beautiful, and that light… oh my! A photographer’s dream!

Stacie & Duncan decorated the area with the most incredible magical themed handmade decorations, skulls and dried flowers, which I just loved. The reception was in the same beautiful room at Chetham’s Library – I love this venue because it allows for long feasting-style tables, which really went well with their theme- a great nod to the Harry Potter house tables! Their stunning handmade World of Warcraft themed table plan was an incredible touch too!

Chetham’s Library is such a unique venue that is perfect for alternative weddings, and is one of the quirkiest places to get married in Manchester. The venue offers seriously good food – and there so many incredible backdrops that are perfect for photos. Plus, did I mention it looks like Hogwarts?

My highlights from this unique wedding at Chetham Library

The Couple

Stacie wore a stunning dress with black beading, which complemented her alternative style perfectly and Duncan and his Groomsmen wore converse, which was a really cool touch! Their outfits were amazing and they looked really dapper.

The couple got in touch with me after being told about me by an old school friend, which was so lovely! We connected instantly, and their enquiry was so personal and quirky. They said that they were super excited to get married at Chetham’s Library because it was like a mini-Hogwarts, so I was sold instantly!

They, like so many of my couples, told me that they were super-awkward in front of the camera, but with a bit of my expert guidance (!) they were incredible on the day, and just looked so in love in every frame! Their incredible quirky outfits and decor was incredible, and I loved that they made it all themselves.
They designed and printed all the paper bits, invites, menus, signage etc. and assembled all the centre pieces and all of the chair / table decorations. Their favours (shots in potion bottles!) were all hand made too, and they had an INCREDIBLE “Alchemy Shoppe” candy bar too, with the most beautiful labels and details. It was all absolutely stunning- I’m in awe of their mad DIY skillzzz.

Chetham’s Library was an absolute dream for a unique wedding. With it’s amazing setting, stunning light and fab food options, you just can’t go wrong! I just love how incredibly unique and personal Stacie and Duncan’s day was.

They told me: “Everything that we have chosen is just things that we like. We are huge nerdy Dungeons and Dragons / World of Warcraft gamers and the aesthetic of the wedding reflects that and our interests. We had a full table of friends that we have met through World of Warcraft and have known for years, ‘The Guild Group’, who have travelled to the wedding from all over the world. This really meant a lot to us as we don’t get to see them in person that often. We haven’t really followed the traditional wedding rules/styles which may seem very unusual to some, but for us it’s just our normal weirdness”. That’s the absolute best alternative wedding planning advice right there!

Right from the beginning Rachel was super friendly and made us feel extremely comfortable. Rachel did an amazing job on the day- we don’t know how she managed to get so many incredible photos out of a group of photo-awkward people, we couldn’t have wished for anything better!
