An Intimate Edinburgh City Chambers Wedding

EDINBURGH Wedding Photographer

Planning an intimate Edinburgh wedding? This Edinburgh City Chambers Wedding has epic tiny wedding inspiration in spades!

This stunning Edinburgh City Chambers wedding was an absolute treat. I love Edinburgh- it’s a city with such a fun and vibrant atmosphere, not to mention gorgeous to boot, so it was a real treat to travel up for this lovely elopement.

Aleks and Martin got married at the beautiful Edinburgh City Chambers, a stunning historic building nestled on the famous Royal Mile. Anyone who knows Edinburgh knows it is bustling and busy at the best of times, but Aleks and Martin married on just before the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe, so the main street was packed with revellers and street theatre, adding to the incredible atmosphere of the day. It was a truly international elopement wedding, with guests from all over the world! Aleks and Martin are from Poland and Argentina respectively, met each other in Corsica and had been studying in Edinburgh. They now live, work and study in New York- what an amazing, inspirational pair!

An Edinburgh City Chambers Wedding

The intimate ceremony took place at the beautiful Edinburgh City Chambers, and was so personal, which was lovely. I loved the non-traditional way this gorgeous couple approached their day- they arrived at and walked into their ceremony together, wore outfits they already owned and loved to minimise the environmental impact of their day and made beautifully personal vows. The ceremony included fantastic readings by the couples’ fathers, each in their native language, which was an absolutely gorgeous addition to the day. It was such an intimate, yet fun, occasion, full of so much love.

After the ceremony, Aleks, Martin and their guests mingled in the historic courtyard, which was really relaxed- it was so lovely to watch these two families and their friends from all over the world coming together! I got some really special photos of the family groups- the international element of their families means that it was such a rare and special event for everyone to be together, so I know these photos meant such a lot to Aleks and Martin. The couple also dance Tango together regularly and had many of their Tango group their as guests, so we couldn’t resist a Tango dancing group shot too!!

My highlights from this intimate Edinburgh wedding

An Intimate Reception at The Gardener’s Cottage

At the reception, the couple had organised a gorgeous private meal for their guests at The Gardener’s Cottage, one of my absolute favourite restaurants in Edinburgh. Not only is it a stunning space, the food is incredible- they grow much of the produce themselves, and their menus are all seasonal- and of course absolutely delicious! It was through The Gardener’s Cottage that Aleks and Martin found me- I had photographed Charlotte & Ben’s stunning Edinburgh Elopement the year before, and the lovely venue recommended me, which I am so thankful for! (You can also see Charlotte and Ben’s wedding featured on One Fab Day here.)

After the ceremony and group photos, Aleks, Martin and I explored the incredible streets of Edinburgh, taking some stunning couple’s portraits. These two are absolutely made for each other and their love and playfulness shone through beautifully in this shot. We were absolutely spoilt for choice with stunning spots for portraits, with incredible views of the castle.

From the Couple:

Aleks and Martin told me: “We wanted to have a day of celebrating with our close friends and family in a relaxed way. We picked the Gardener’s cottage because we love supporting local businesses and like their philosophy of growing their own produce and cooking seasonally. We try to be conscientious in terms of our impact on the environment so it was important for us to have a simple ceremony where we could wear our clothes at another time (i.e. no white dress). Our friends have been so excited with the news of us getting married and we look forward to celebrate (and eat!) with them to highlight our time here in Edinburgh.

I loved this tiny Edinburgh City Chambers wedding so much. I blooming love any excuse to spend time in Edinburgh, especially during the Fringe, so it was an absolute privilege to spend a gorgeous day with gorgeous people.

“Rachel was better than any photographer we could imagine! She made us feel very comfortable on the day, we loved having her help us capture lovely photos for our wedding ceremony. The photos came out so genuine – we didn’t even notice that she was busy taking them! We would definitely recommend Rachel (especially if you’re not comfortable in front of the camera)!!”
