if you’re planning a Lancaster Town Hall elopement, or a small, elopement style wedding, you’ll love this wedding for inspiration!
When Chesca and Huw first got in touch with me about their Lancaster Town Hall elopement, I was so honoured. Unfortunately, Huw’s dad had been very poorly, and they wanted to plan a day that he could attend and be part of. Amazingly, they planned their beautiful, intimate celebration in just a month, over Christmas no less, and having met me at Amy & Rob’s gorgeous Meols Hall wedding, asked me to shoot their day. They were planning a beautiful family focused wedding with an intimate ceremony followed by a lovely meal with family for the reception. Chesca and Huw are the loveliest people and I was absolutely honoured to photograph their day.
The wedding took place at Lancaster Town Hall, and was a small but beautiful ceremony. Chesca and Huw looked so stylish- Chesca in a gorgeous mid-length Ted Baker dress with a statement necklace, and Huw in a fab Dobell Clothing green velvet jacket. I just loved their unique style!
During the ceremony, they had some beautiful readings, which brought pretty much everyone to tears. After the ceremony they were showered with confetti, and then the celebrations began. Lancaster Town Hall itself is a stunning building, perfect for intimate family group shots as the guests mingled and chatted. There was even a surprise appearance from some friends and family who travelled for four hours just to catch a glimpse of Chesca & Huw after the ceremony!
After the ceremony
The wedding reception took place in a gorgeous unique restaurant venue, Merchants 1688 in Lancaster, which is a 300-year-old converted wine cellar, with amazing tunnels as private rooms. It is even said to have been used as gun-powder storage rooms for Lancaster Castle among it’s many uses in the past! It was really unique, and perfect for their intimate celebrations.
While the guests enjoyed drinks at the bar, we wandered around the the gorgeous Lancaster city centre doing fun and creative portraits. My favourite photo from our portrait session is a fab urban shot in front of a gorgeous purple graffiti wall (the main image above). Chesca and Huw looked at me a bit daft when I led them down a, quite frankly, disgusting alleyway, but they loved the photo as much as me in the end! Lancaster, even in the January rain, is a beautiful city with lots of fab backdrops for photos, and we had so much fun.
We headed back to Merchants, arriving back just before the heavens opened, and Chesca & Huw were greeted warmly by their lovely guests. During the reception they enjoyed beautiful food in a cosy space, which gave the afternoon a really chilled vibe.
A stunning intimate Lancaster Town Hall elopement
I am just in absolute awe of Chesca and Huw and the incredible way they pulled together a gorgeous, heartfelt and stylish celebration in under a month. Their amazing personalities shone through in spades, and they as an absolute testament to the fact that your wedding can be exactly what you want it to be. Whilst not what they initialy planned, their day was perfect. They, absolutely rightly, prioritised family and love above all things, and had a day they could and should be immensely proud of. I feel overjoyed and incredibly honoured to have been part of it. Thank you so much Chesca & Huw!
“Rachel- You Are AMAZING. It was so great to have you there on our wedding day. We and our family are blown away by how incredible the photos are!”
