Parading through the streets of Liverpool accompanied by the INCREDIBLE sounds of Hardcore Hornography (an absolutely INSANE brass wedding band from New Power Soul Club) was one of my absolute highlights of my 2019. Genevieve and Matt definitely got the party started right! Read on for all the crazy details.
The Ceremony at The Athenaeum, Liverpool
Genevieve and Matt tied the knot at the beautiful Liverpool Athenaeum. This lovely pair describe them selves as non-traditional- I mean, when they first contacted me about shooting their day, they were living on a boat!- so, from the outset that they didn’t want a huge amount of tradition in their wedding day. To that end, they chose the WONDERFUL Lorraine Hull to perform their beautifully personal ceremony. Lorraine gets to know her couples really well, and writes a totally personalised ceremony for them- it Genevieve and Matt’s case it included a brilliant ‘handshake’ demonstration by their Best Men which was HILARIOUS, and a really poignant hand-fasting- where they couples hands are bound together with a cord that has been blessed by each and every one of their friends and families. So gorgeous.
The Outfits and Flowers
Genevieve’s dress was just STUNNING. Made by one of my absolute favourite designers, Temperley Bridal, from Agape Bridal Boutique. I just loved the neckline and the lace details. her stunning hair and make-up were by the amazing Glamorama. She looked incredible, totally natural, and unapologetically herself, which is just absolute BRIDE GOALS! Matt wore a stunning tailored suit by Harland Collier. The gorgeous wild flowers by The Flower Farm Lancashire are one of my absolute favourite florists. Their wild, pretty style is just so beautiful, and they grow most of the flowers and plants themselves, so they are always in season. Genevieve says:
“We didn’t consciously set out to have a ‘sustainable’ wedding, but when it came to picking flowers I wanted only in season flowers. A lot of our details have come from small independent businesses on Etsy etc. too.”
You can see more of their gorgeous work at another of my weddings, Maddy & Mike’s stunning Spring Cottage wedding, here.
Hardcore Hornography Wedding Band
After the ceremony , it was time for Hardcore Hornography to do their thing! The guests made their way out of The Athenaeum to the sound of their incredible New Orleans style brass- and the excitement in the atmosphere was electric! The guests danced and sang along the whole way through the centre of Liverpool, led by the band and the couple, to Leaf on Bold Street. It was absolutely amazing to see the guests having such a wild time, dancing away and getting ready to party hard! I’ve never seen so many random members of the public videoing a wedding in my life. It was a real carnival atmosphere!
The absolute highlight was the guests raising their umbrellas, not because of the rain (no-one had even noticed that, they were having so much fun!) but just in a moment of complete community spirit and joy- it was INCREDIBLE.
Hardcore Hornography are incredibly talented musicians, and it really was the most fun way to get the party started! The band continued to play once we arrived for the reception at Leaf on Bold Street, which was awesome, as the guests were dancing right from the off!
A LEAF on Bold Street Wedding Reception
LEAF on Bold Street is not only my go-to spot in Liverpool for breakfast and client meetings, but an absolutely incredible venue for an alternative wedding. Genevieve and Matt told me:
“The overall vibe we want for our day is for everyone to feel; relaxed, comfortable and able to have fun. We’re both really relaxed and casual people who don’t like to do things in a ‘traditional’ way. This is why we chose LEAF as a venue; it is unique with big windows, lots of light and not overly formal. We wanted everyone to feel a part of the day which is why we opted for long tables and a sharing menu.”
The venue looked incredible with stunning decor by Thornton Events– those lush green trees! As Genevieve said, the guests sat at long tables and shared beautiful sharing platter (The food at LEAF is absolutely to die for!), oodles of cake and cocktails in jars from a gorgeous cocktail bar set up by Genevieve and Matt to thank their guests for coming.
Genevieve’s very talented dad made their cake, and I just loved their gorgeous personalised cake topper!
The Party To End All Parties
When a wedding starts with a Hardcore Hornography party procession through town, you know that the dance floor is going to be BOUNCING. The guests have already got into the party mood, warmed up their voices and their dancing feet! So, from the moment that Gen and Matt started off the party with an epic first dance, accompanied by gold confetti canons, the dance floor was always full of guests having the time of their lives. Their brilliant band, Monsta Ball Rocks, played a set list of absolute corkers and the dance moved were absolutely on point, as you can see from the photos below! Genevieve herself rarely left the dancefloor, and I just absolutely loved her attitude. She was there to dance the night away, and no-one was going to stop her!
What a wedding!! I thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Thank you so much for having me Mr & Mrs Daly- I hope you’re loving married life as much as I loved your day!
