A Wedding at Meols Hall Tithe Barn, Southport
Wow! What a venue Meols Hall is! One of my absolute favourite barn wedding venues, Meols Hall in Southport is a gorgeous 12th Century Tithe Barn and is the perfect space for fun, rustic weddings. Not to mention, it’s just down the road from my house!
I was absolutely delighted when Amy & Rob asked me to be their photographer. Two of the loveliest, most genuine people you could ever hope to meet, I met way them back in 2017, and over coffee in Churchtown, just down the road from Meols Hall itself, we talked about their plans. They both wanted a fun day surrounded by family and friends, followed by an awesome party, and boy did they deliver!
Getting Ready & Getting Wed
I joined Amy and her bridal party as they got ready in Orrell. With make-up by Jessica Mae MUA, the girls looked gorgeous, and between sips of champagne and lots of giggles, they got ready to head to church. A favourite moment of mine was Amy’s sister trying on her veil- I’m not sure Amy was too chuffed about that one! Before long, it was time to head to the boys for the super short walk to their local church.
The church Amy & Rob got married in, St James’s Church in Orrell, was so cute! Their ceremony was full of emotion, and so much love- and even a few tears from the groom as you can see below! As Amy walked down the aisle with her dad though, tears made way for ALL THE JOY- I love Amy’s “WE’RE MARRIED!” face!
Following the ceremony the guests threw confetti that Amy & Rob had made using dried rose petals from all the roses they had been given over the past year- such a sweet idea! The big, colourful petals made for an epic shot too!
Meols Hall Wedding Photography
As we pulled into Meols Hall, as was fairly (and annoyingly!) typical for August 2019, the heavens opened. But this fab wedding party didn’t let it dampen their spirits! Because Meols Hall is a beautiful inside as it is outside, no-one cared a jot about the drizzle, and headed into the lovely coach house for drinks and canapes. The sun did peek out later on though, allowing guests to mingle in the lovely cobbled courtyard.
The Tithe Barn looked INCREDIBLE lit by tall candles, with stunning flowers by David Beckham Doyle Flowers. The couple had made their own place cards and table plan (as well as their amazing photo booth!) and the venue looked utterly gorgeous. Meols Hall, with it’s beautiful lighting and rustic brick walls, has a cosy and relaxed vibe, perfect for fun, chilled out weddings. I just loved the dramatic light during the speeches too. I really enjoyed getting some killer creative shots playing with light and shadow.
“Rachel, your pictures are everything and more! Thank you so much for capturing our perfect day! We had an absolutely incredible day. Thank you for all of your laughs, calm moments and brilliance!” Amy & Rob
At Meols Hall, we were absolutely spoilt for choice for incredible portrait locations. After the group photos, we took a moment to chill out, take a walk around the grounds and shoot some lovely relaxed portraits. The gorgeous greens of the grounds were just a dream to shoot, and the stunning manor house provided no end of inspiration too.
Later on in the evening we were treated to the most AMAZING golden hour, so Nick, their fab videographer and I got crazy-excited and insisted they join us for a few more pictures- as you can see below it was definitely worth it! Nick played their first dance song and Rob and Amy practised their first dance under the gorgeous golden light in the middle of a field. It was MAGIC.
Finally, to bring an absolutely epic day to a close, the couple and all of their friends and family absolutely tore up the dance floor! With a finely balanced playlist (with just the right mix of floorfillers and cheese!) the dancefloor was absolutely jumping. Particular highlights for me were Rob’s insanely high kicks, and a brilliant rendition of ‘Rolling On The River’ by Tina Turner. Each time I thought about leaving, another tune came on, and I partied on with them! What a night!
Thank you so much for having me along Mr & Mrs Kruze! I loved every minute of your brilliant day and shooting at the beautiful Meols Hall. Huge congratulations to you both!
It’s not difficult to see why Meols Hall Tithe Barn is one of my absolute favourite venues. It is the perfect wedding venue to wow your guests have the most amazing day. The history buff in me absolutely adores the historical charm of it so much! Southport’s historical Manor House situated in the grounds of Meols Hall, Churchtown was loveingly restored by local craftsmen, using traditional methods have ensured the four hundred year old barn retains all its original features, but also includes a modern, fully equipped kitchen, bar facilities, superb lighting and sound system- meaning it is just perfect for relaxed, rustic weddings!
The grounds themselves can’t fail to impress, and there are more spots for epic portraits than you can shake a stick at! The intimate ambience of the candlelit Tithe Barn is just wonderful, and the adjoining Coach House is a lovely space to chill out in too. It holds up to 120 guests for a seated wedding breakfast, so is big enough for a party wedding too! If you are looking for a fun Meols Hall Wedding Photographer, I would love to have a chat about your plans. I’m super local (in fact I live just down the road!) and love any excuse to shoot at this beautiful venue in my hometown. I can’t wait for you to get in touch!
