A fun, colourful winter wedding in Liverpool

Are you planning a fun winter wedding in Liverpool? Then you need to see this stunner of a wedding!

Laura and Rory planned a modern, chic and stunning winter wedding at One Fine Day, Liverpool- a former cotton mill perfect for epic parties! They included their love of literature, travel and Christmas, and created a fun, relaxed celebration bursting at the seams with love. I can’t wait to share it with you!

Getting Ready

I joined Laura and her bridesmaids at bridal prep in a stunning flat over looking the Mersey, with the most amazing view of The Liver Buildings. It was a cold but bright day and the light was absolutely stunning!

We all instantly got on like a house on fire and had a gorgeous morning getting ready! Laura’s stunning dress and custom veil from Flamingo Boulevard (the go-to place for alternative brides in Liverpool!) were just beautiful, and I just LOVED that the start in the lace sleeves and on the veil matched her manicure!

I just loved the stunning flowers! Created by The Flower Studio, Liverpool, the berry colours were just stunning, and I just loved the raw cotton included in them, a nod to the roots of their venue One Fine Day, as a former cotton exchange. The floral hoops the bridesmaids carried and the flower girls’ lovely flower crowns were absolutely stunning too.

The Ceremony at St Michael’s Church, Liverpool

Laura & Rory chose the church because is had a really special meaning for them. Laura told me: “It’s down the road from Rory’s sisters house but also only yards away from where we first met (through mutual friends on our way to LIMF festival in Sefton park). It has history, but the stained glass window is just beautiful.”

Of course, she’s absolutely right- the church, with its pink exterior walls, stunning stained glass and wonderful history was the perfect ceremony location for this stylish pair- even if we did entirely close off the road when trying to get a confetti shot and load all their guests onto buses! Hell, it’s your wedding day, if you can’t stop traffic then, when can you?

The ceremony was absolutely beautiful and so heartfelt. Laura & Rory chose the most beautiful reading: Rory’s cousin Sophie read Pablo Neruda’s Love Sonnet XVII. Laura told me: “I read it years ago and feel that it perfectly fits how I feel about him (and him about me)“. I just love the line:

“I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where,
I love you directly without problems or pride:
I love you like this because I don’t know any other way to love”

So beautiful! I don’t think there was a dry eye in the whole place. It was a beautiful literary touch in their gorgeous day

My highlights from this gorgeous winter wedding

The Reception at One Fine Day, Liverpool

When choosing One Fine Day, the couple were especially organised! Laura said: “Before we were even engaged Rory and I had gone for brunch at One Fine Day and he casually remarked how nice it would be for a wedding (obviously my brain went into, OMG he thinks about weddings/getting married etc)!
It was perfect as wanted a wintery but not super christmassy theme – so the cranberry colours, the candles, the starry night etc, and we wanted everyone to dress up – because you don’t often get a chance to get out your fancy dresses!”

One Fine Day looked absolutely stunning when we arrived. Laura had hand-painted stunning watercolour table names themed to all the places they loved and had visited together, and the couple had collected and lovingly polished LOADS of brass candlesticks for their table centres.

The stunning “Written In The Stars” themed stationery by Hawthorne and Ivory finished the whole look perfectly. I just loved that the couple had included their fur babies, their two cats, in their decor as cake toppers (and Rory’s cufflinks too!)

Winter Wedding Photography, Liverpool

As it was December, the light was fast disappearing, even as the ceremony ended, so we made the most of it before the sun set completely and headed out for portraits. Laura and Rory are just the sweetest people, and, as you can see, looked incredible, so wherever we went they were the absolute centre of attention!

The Commercial District in Liverpool, where One Fine Day is located is full of stunning architecture, and of course it was dressed beautifully for Christmas, so we make the most of the twinkly fairly lights and Christmas trees, before heading back to join the party.

The Party

Many of Laura and Rory’s guests (they both have large families!) had travelled over from America and there were so many gorgeous moments of reunion and shared memories throughout the day, which made for some fab candid photos.

As I left they to dance long into the night, my heart was full to bursting. What a wonderful way to end 2019! I love being a One Fine Day Wedding Photographer, and photographing people who make me feel like I’m a friend photographing friends, which these two, and their gorgeous friends and family, absolutely did.

Thank you so much Laura & Rory, and huge congratulations to you both!

“All of the photos have life to them; Rachel caught intimate moments between couples, friends laughing, people dancing, the list goes on. We have a large family and she managed to wrangle most into group photos, but her photography isn’t about staging group shots or giving direction, it’s about capturing the people in those photos. They are bright and colourful and brilliant.”

Beautifully restored building in the centre of Liverpool

Located in a historic Grade II listed building on Old Hall Street, One Fine Day is described as “the beting heart of Liverpool’s Commercial District. It is a super welcoming space by day, perfect to hang out, work and celebrate. It is housed in a beautiful former cotton exchange and the building has been carefully and beautifully restored, right down to it’s original marble pillars! I just love the charming cobbled street location and the space is large enough for big weddings like Laura & Rory’s! It is a sister venue to two of my other fave alternative Liverpool Wedding venues, Leaf on Bold Street and Oh Me Oh My, and it is the perfect location for a fun, stylish wedding.
