A Fun, Colourful Wedding at Ta Mill, Cornwall

I bloody loved this fun, colourful Cornish wedding!! Kirsty and Sam’s colourful summer fete wedding at the gorgeous Ta Mill in Launceston, Cornwall, was an absolute delight to be part of.

Sometimes I really do have to pinch myself that travelling to beautiful places, spending the day with awesome people and having this much fun is actually my job! Relaxed festival and fete weddings are always my absolute favourite, because couples always go to town DIY-ing elements of their day, and planning amazing ways to keep their guests entertained, and Kirsty and Sam’s day was no exception.

The Plans

Kirsty says: “So, we have tried to plan a relaxed fun, boozy day filled with laughter. We both work long hours and have quite full on jobs (Sam is an engineer, and Kirsty is a Paramedic!), where we are often high fiving each other as one is coming in from a shift and the other heading out. So when we do have a weekend off together, we love nothing more than having a few drinks, catching some live music, meeting friends or escaping in our campervan, Bert, for a few days to reconnect a little.

We both thrive for the summer and spend all the time we can outside and even better if there is some music and alcohol to accompany the rays. So basically we just wanted our day to reflect what we enjoy doing most together and not to spend it all formal with a three course meal where you are stuck at a table for hours with the same guests. For us the meal is of least importance and we just want to have some fun and be a bit silly.”

The Personal Touches

And they definitely did just that!! The day absolutely revolved around fun- with an amazing handmade Photobooth frame, a huge colourful bouncy castle and lots and lots of lawn games, their guests were kept busy all afternoon. They also had two fantastic live bands, who were good friends of the couple, and a DJ to keep the dance floor jumping all day long! One of my favourite little personal tweaks to tradition was replacing the champagne toast with bottles of VK!

Before the wedding, Kirsty told me, “We are both really looking forward to the guests faces when they learn they are not having a nice champagne toast but rather being given a bottle of VK to strawpeedo as much as they can. Sam and I lived apart for three years (long distance sucks!) whilst I attended Uni and any Uni nights out always revolved around VK and I have come to truly love a good VK, learning that only the best nights include it so it of course has to be part of our wedding!”

Emotional Moments

I also must admit to shedding a tear or two during the day, especially at moments involving Kirsty’s lovely Gramps, who Kirsty describes as her hero. From walking her down the aisle, to dancing with her at the reception, the love between them was just lovely to behold. Both families and all of the guests made me feel so welcome on the day, and I had the best time capturing all of the fun!

I particularly loved how Kirsty and Sam made the day totally personal to them- from including Kirsty’s super-cute car, Ernie (which Sam lovingly restored for Kirsty from a completely dilapidated state to the thing of beauty it is now!) in their couples shots, to having Cornish pasties for their evening food, and Kirsty insisting she wanted sheep in the photos and not giving two hoots about the train of her dress getting covered in sheep poo in the process! Absolute couple goals!

Thank you so much to both of you for having me along, I loved every second. Enjoy your previews!!
